Abstract: |
Allen Archaeology Limited was commissioned by Ms Rebecca Taylor-Georgeson to carry out a historical building survey of an early 20th century Methodist Church which is to undergo a residential conversion on Church Street in Donington, Lincolnshire. The Jungendstiled inspired chapel from 1903 sits on land which formerly held two earlier Methodist chapels. The schoolroom of the preceding chapel has been incorporated into the 1903 building via an extension directly west of the chapel. The chapel is built of red bricks with an English bond. Plain tiles with crested ridge tiles cover the roof apart from the west complex which roof material is slate. The east elevation features the most elaborate architectural features of the whole complex. Parapets protrude from the eaves and pointed lancet and geometrical windows holds leaded curvilinear floral motif stained glass and are topped by hooded mouldings that |
