Abstract: |
1.1.1. The site of the proposed mini-hydro power scheme development is at Alport Mill, a grade II listed building which is also registered on the Derbyshire Historic Environment Record (no. 6720). Archaeological Research Services Ltd were commissioned by Derwent Hydro to undertake an archaeological desk-based assessment in order to obtain information on the designated historical sites within the development area and the surrounding 1km radius. Although the current structure dates from the 18th century and contains 19th century water-driven equipment, the origins of the building are believed to be considerably older with records of a corn mill being present in this location dating to the end of the 12th century. As such, the assessment aims to establish if any of these earlier mill remains could be affected by the development and consequently be able to advise on the next phase of action to be taken given the findings. |
