Abstract:
ARCUS was commissioned by Severn Trent Water plc to undertake an archaeological watching brief during the excavation of a pipeline trench from Peak Forest to Sparrowpit, Derbyshire. As much of the pipeline was to be instated along the route of the A623, archaeological monitoring was only required on the final section of the route, where the pipeline crossed fields between the A623 and Sparrowpit. The desk-based assessment (ARCUS 2007) had already established the potential for impact upon buried archaeological features in this area. The archaeology in this case comprised lead-workings and associated features. No impact was made upon these features during the monitored excavations.
