Abstract: |
South West Archaeology Ltd. (SWARCH) conducted historic desk-based research, a historic building survey and archaeological monitoring on Cable Cottage prior to the demolition of the building. The land at North Sands had already been reclaimed by the time of the tithe survey, but the first structure on the site was constructed in or around 1871 to house the British end of the Brest-to-Salcombe submarine telegraph cable. The only remaining evidence found for the cottage's former use as a cable house was a truncated section of the telegraph cable. |
