Abstract: |
In the course of the archaeological watching brief for Thames Water Engineering Works within the area 'Limehouse' Area a significant archaeological discovery was made in Narrow Street. One long section of trench which ran along Narrow Street was investigated and recorded in December 2008 - March 2009. This uncovered a number of archaeological remains, which were subsequently recorded and with the collection of a few brick samples and key finds. The remains of several post-medieval cellars/basements, along the northern side of Narrow Street, were uncovered. This included the walls, later infills, some brick floors, and other features such as a set of brick steps and a window ledge. Some 'street' deposits, and the remains of 'passageways' were also uncovered. |
