Abstract:
Drinkstone, former Cherry Tree PH, Gedding Road (DRK 033, TL 959 603) evaluation trenching of a 1.30 hectare site on what had largely been part of Drinkstone Green until the mid 19th century revealed results consistent with low intensity past land use related to the grazing of livestock as only one small ditch of relatively recent date was found. The former Cherry Tree PH complex dates to the late 19th century and lies on that small part of this site which straddles part of the eastern green edge. However no features on any age were revealed around the green edge with all the stray finds from the upcast spoil being of 19th century, or later, date save one small sherd of medieval pottery.
