Abstract: |
A watching brief on ground breaking works was undertaken at James Watt Dock, Greenock, Inverclyde in March 2011. This work was carried out after an Environmental Statement identified that the site had the potential to include both earlier dock features and surfaces along with possible pre-industrial archaeological remains. Only a small area of the ground-breaking works were monitored and this revealed a brick constructed culvert that contained a number of cast-iron pipes and modern cables. This culvert was considered to be part of the original dock construction built in the 1870s. No features or artefacts of archaeological significance were recorded during these monitoring works. |
