Abstract:
In September 2006, North Pennines Archaeology Limited were commissioned by Graham K. Norman (Architect) Ltd on behalf of his client to undertake an archaeological building recording project of farm buildings at Midtown Farm in advance of a conversion to holiday accomodation. The survey revealed that the buildings proposed for development consisted of a barn with byre and hayloft above in one building, and in the other were 2 further byres with first floor haylofts. All were present on the Tithe Map of 1850. A further range of buildings dated to between 1850 and 1865, with a further building added between 1865 and 1900. A milking parlour was added in the mid-20th century. The farm had closed by 1994.
