Abstract: |
Archaeological watching brief undertaken during groundworks associated with a flood alleviation scheme in the centre of the town of Cockermouth. The watching brief was undertaken in four phases between 2012 and 2013. The first phase revealed evidence for structural remains in the form of sandstone wall foundations and cobbled surfaces. The second phase revealed evidence for standing walls and foundations. The third phase identified several standing walls and floor surfaces, related to cottages which once occupied the site. The fourth phase recorded the exposed remains of the windmill. |
