Abstract: |
Watching brief undertaken during erection of a signpost within Smithwick's Bastion, Pendennis Castle. A small posthole was excavated by hand measuring roughly 0.30m x 0.30m to a depth of 0.6m. No archaeological features were recorded, and no artifacts recovered. The deposits encountered were most likely a result of the construction of the 19th century magazine within the bastion, the soil being thrown up against the rampart. It is possible however that these deposits may be more recent in date. |
