Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report Abstract:	A watching brief was undertaken for remediation works at the former gasworks site on Towcester Road, Northampton. The circular brick foundation walls of two gasholders, an associated brick building and various large cast iron pipes of the 19th and 20th-century gasworks were observed during excavations to decontaminate the ground. No evidence of earlier archaeological features or finds was present. Small areas of natural uncontaminated ground were present at the north end of the site. Much of the site was subject to extensive contamination by tar below the gasholders and the associated buildings.
