Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in advance of a proposed residential development. Five trenches were excavated, representing some 5% of the proposed development area. Two trenches were excavated to the rear of the frontage at the western end of the site and both contained a large numbers of pits of late post-medieval date. In the gap between Laburnum Cottage and the barn to the south, a pit contained late 18th century pottery and cut a metalled surface which overlay a small undated pit. These were the earliest features encountered. In the eastern half of the site, apart from a large and undated quarry hollow, no archaeological features were revealed. [Au(adp)] |
