Abstract: |
This report represents the results of an archaeological excavation undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group at 31 Barnton Avenue West, Barnton, Edinburgh (centred NGR: NT 18867 75812). The work was commissioned by MM Construction on behalf of their client, Mr Lam. The work was undertaken in advance of the redevelopment of the existing house plot. The objective of the work was to excavate several archaeological features revealed by a previous archaeological evaluation undertaken in 2007. The excavation revealed a heavily truncated, rectangular sandstone structure with a probable north facing entrance. This lay directly under a recently demolished dwelling. The structure, perhaps a kennels or stable block, may have a 17th century origin and is probably associated with the site of Cramond Regis. A limited number of artefacts were recovered during the excavation of the structure. These consisted of ceramics including a single sherd of green glaze pottery and a copper button. |
