Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out by AC archaeology during ground works associated with the construction of a livestock building on land off Polehouse Lane, Ide, Devon (SX 90947 90085). The site lay to the east of Polehouse Lane and close to the junction with Ide Lane and the A30 dual carriageway (Fig 1). It comprised part of a wider field bisected by a coombe, with the position of the development site lying at 31m aOD on ground that sloped moderately-steeply towards the northwest. The monitored groundworks consisted of the bulk reduction of topsoil within the footprint of the new building and surrounding area. This area measured approximately 59m by 90m. The only finds recovered from the site were four small sherds of industrially produced (post c. 1770) pottery from topsoil and a worked flint from subsoil. No archaeological features or deposits were exposed. |
