Abstract: |
In response to a planning condition on the development of land at Rotten Row Farm, Furneux Pelham, Hertfordshire, the Heritage Network was commissioned to undertake a programme of archaeological monitoring on groundworks. The proposed development entailed the creation of a rectangular manege for horses, measuring 60m by 20m. Due to the slope of the site and a requirement for a level surface, only the western half of the plot was stripped, the excavated area measuring 30m by 20m. A maximum depth of 0.35m was reached which did not impact below the subsoil. No archaeological features, deposits or finds were encountered during the course of the investigation. Two small sondages confirmed the nature and depth of the substratum to natural. |
