Abstract: |
Suffolk Archaeology CIC (SACIC) undertook an archaeological trial trench evaluation within the footprint of a proposed wine shop to the rear of 98 Risbygate Street, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. A single 12 x 1.80m trench (c. 5% of the total area) was evaluated to assess the quantity, quality and extent of any surviving archaeological deposits. The evaluation identified a single late medieval/post-medieval rubbish pit cut into the superficial geology in the centre of the trench, the archaeology was found to be well preserved below a levelling layer and deep topsoil deposits. The pit contained window glass and horncores and hooves potentially indicative of tanning activity. |
