Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken during works to demolish an unstable rear wing of a building and rebuild it using the same materials. Although the house itself was built in red brick, the demolition revealed that the lower courses were built in squared, courses of natural stone. In situ archaeologically was not disturbed during the work, the investigation did not reveal any dating evidence to prove that the rear wing pre-dated the main house. However, the work did reveal that the joists to the front floor were constructed of old ship's masts and spars planed to allow floor boards to be fixed to one side. [AIP] |
