Abstract:
A programme of archaeological recording and post-excavation work on an archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Channel 4's Time Team at Chenies Manor. The site was a Scheduled Ancient Monument (27145) and a Grade I Listed Building. The aim of the project was to ascertain the character, extent and degree of preservation of the archaeological remains at Chenies Manor. Geophysical survey was incorporated in to the work. Dendrochronological samples taken from the structural timbers of the surviving west range had precise felling dates ranging from spring 1537 to summer 1538. Eighteen trenches were excavated and revealed evidence for a phase of 12th and 13th century occupation on the Site, in the form of a number of features cut into the natural drift geology of the site. A number of other structural remains related to the Tudor manorial complex were also recorded. [Au(abr)]
