Abstract: |
Four trenches were excavated in order to evaluate the archaeological potential of a proposed development site. A previous magnetometry survey (2004) on the site identified a large number of anomalies suggestive of silted up foundation trenches, ditches and gullies. The excavation revealed pits and boundaries of probable Late Iron Age/Romano-British date, along with medieval chalk-built walls which were superseded by a later medieval phase and saw the digging of large pits, presumably for gravel extraction. A small assemblage of residual flint objects were recovered, along with pottery of Late Iron Age/Romano-British and medieval date. [Au(adp)] |
