Abstract:
A watching brief was carried out during repairs to suspended timber floors within the nave, and the ground level in three areas. A modern layer containing brick and mortar lay directly beneath the surface. A small quantity of human bone was identified within this context but was disarticulated and did not represent a burial. In the second phase of the watching brief in January 2006, a stone built structure was observed. It was suggested that it may have been the wall of a vault of the foundation of an earlier layout of the church itself. A single fragment of shaped red sandstone was recorded projecting from the section at the base of the trench. [Au(abr)]
