Abstract: |
This report has been produced by WYG to inform a planning application for a proposed residential housing scheme. This report is a revision of a previous desk based assessment carried out by WYG with updated data and information. A 1km study area has been examined and the key constraints have been identified. Although the site is located in an area with recorded later Prehistoric and Romano-British remains that would normally have indicated high potential for archaeological potential on the site, the 18th century development of Kempshott House and the later 20th century landscaping are considered to have had a detrimental effect on any such deposits. As a result older archaeological remains are unlikely to be present on the site. However there is some potential for remains associated with Kempshott House to survive and to be affected by the proposed development. It is considered appropriate for archaeological mitigation to take the form of an archaeological Watching Brief in the area of the site formerly occupied by Kempshott House. No further archaeological intervention is considered necessary. |
