Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology were commissioned by ExxonMobil to create a historic building record (HBR) of the Esso Waterside Jetty adjacent to the former Oulton Broad Bulk Plant, Harbour Road, Oulton Broad, Lowestoft, Suffolk. The jetty was constructed c 1901 for the Anglo American Oil Works as a landing stage for transporting oil barrels into an adjacent petroleum storage depot. The jetty was originally fitted with a sheerleg lifting device, which was replaced with a swing jig crane before 1904. Although the jetty retained its original layout, most original timbers had been replaced. In the 1970s or 80s two concrete mooring dolphins were added to facilitate the docking of larger ships. Subsequent to the HBR the jetty was demolished. |
