Abstract: |
A watching brief monitored the excavation of three trenches in St Paul's Churchyard which were opened to locate and expose part of the existing gas main to facilitate replacement works. The purpose of the monitoring was to establish whether any archaeological strata - most likely Wren period Churchyard surfaces - did survive in these locations below and around recent disturbance from the gas main and any other modern development works. No archaeological or natural deposits were revealed during these excavation works; all deposists encountered were modern, relating to the existing gas main, other current services and nearby modern buildings. |
