Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring and recording during the installation of a first time sewerage scheme at Cold Harbour linking to the existing sewer system in Wareham (approx 4km away). As well as a new sewer, a combination of up to 4 new pumping stations will be constructed. Works will require a compound (c. 60m x 60m) and possible temporary car park adjacent to the Silent Woman Inn. |

Note: |
Three areas of archaeological interest were identified that may have been potentially impacted by the scheme comprising a group of post-medieval milestones, possible Roman origins for Bere Road and three groups of prehistoric barrows. Despite this, development excavations did not reveal any evidence of activity from these periods and no finds were observed or recovered. There was no impact to the scheduled areas surrounding the barrows and similarly the post-medieval milestones were unaffected by the scheme.
