Abstract:		 The works comprised historic building recording carried out on elements of a late 19th century cottage which were to be removed and replaced with a modern extension, and archaeological monitoring of the foundations for the new build element. The location of the cottage - in a conservation area immediately adjacent to Portencross castle - suggested a real potential for buried archaeology, but all sub-surface deposits and features encountered were either contemporary with or post-dating the cottage.
