Abstract:
A programme of archaeological works was required by Mr Aaron Souttar on behalf of J. W. Souttar Architectural Services and Building Construction in respect of the change of use for the former print works at 20 Swan Street and the former stores at 20a Swan Street and 14-18 Swan Street respectively. All three structures, located off Black Bull Close, Brechin, were subject to a Level 1 Historic Building Recording and Photographic Survey in order to create a baseline record before development. The works confirmed that each of the three buildings, which ranged from late 18th to mid-19th century in date, had undergone both external and internal changes, most likely carried out from the late 19th century onwards. Most surviving interior finishes and fixtures were likely to have be mid- to late 20th century in origin, though some earlier fittings were noted at first floor level in 14-18 Swan Street.
