Abstract:		 Border Archaeology Ltd (BA) was instructed by Richard Smith Esq to carry out a programme of Archaeological Field Evaluation on land to the rear of The Gables East Street Pembridge Herefordshire HR6 9HD in connection with the proposed construction of five detached dwellings with garages and formation of vehicular access. The site lies at the eastern extent of the village, within part of the Pembridge Conservation Area potentially containing evidence for pre-Conquest remains and medieval settlement. Five trenches were opened; however, in spite of the site's archaeological potential, no deposits or features of archaeological significance were present and the only finds consisted of a single sherd of later medieval and two sherds of post-medieval pottery. Small pieces of burnt clay or ceramic building material were also present in the topsoil but not in any significant quantity.
