Abstract: |
On the 17th August 2015, Britannia Archaeology Ltd (BA) undertook an archaeological investigation by means of a trial trench evaluation on Land off Noyes Avenue, Laxfield, Suffolk (TM 294 722), in advance of the construction of two dwellings, four flats and associated works. The archaeological background search suggested that the site had a specific potential for medieval and post medieval features and finds relating to the medieval core of the village. No archaeological features were encountered in either of the trenches. The evaluation revealed only two phases of activity. The most recent phase of activity on site was Made Ground layer 1000 relating to the construction of the 1970's buildings on the sites western boundary. The second and final phase of activity relates to subsoil layer 1002, which was encountered in Trench 2 and was only present in the southern area of the site. It is likely that subsoil 1002 relates to a former agricultural plough soil present on the site when the area was formerly fields before the villages expansion in the mid-20th century. |
