Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by Oakford Archaeology in August 2018 during building work at Muxbeare Barn, Willand, Devon. The site is located within the historic core of the hamlet of Muxbeare, a settlement of possible Saxon origin and recorded in the 1086 Domesday survey as 'Mochelesberia'. A watching brief was maintained during works associated with the conversion of the barn to a dwelling and associated works. The area to the east and south east of the barn was reduced and the eastern boundary, consisting of a simple earth bank, reduced by half. The foul trench leading to the new septic tank was also monitored. No deposits, features or dating evidence indicative of archaeological activity was found. |
