Abstract: |
A programme of archaeological work, comprising the archaeological observation of groundworks associated with the erection of three mews houses and garages, was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in January 2017 and February 2018 at Henrietta Garage Mews, Bathwick, Bath, Bath and North East Somerset. The natural substrate was identified in five excavated trial-pits at a typical depth of 3m below present ground level. The presence of insitu subsoil within these trial-pits, and within a trench excavated in the central part of the site, suggests that the development area has not been subject to substantial truncation. A limestone wall was identified within a trench excavated in the central part of the site and appears to correspond to a property boundary depicted by the 1888 First Edition Ordnance Survey map. No further features or deposits of archaeological interest were observed during groundworks, and no artefactual material was recovered. |
