Abstract: |
An Historic Building Survey was carried out on Willow Cottage Mill Rd Battisford Tye. Upon completion of the inspection, the building was found to be a typical post-medieval lobby-entrance plan type. this is common to Suffolk; with two main rooms to the ground floor originally (parlour and hall), now extended to the rear. The diagnostic evidence from the timbers, especially the main bridging beams, shaoed that the building was at least from the late 17th century, probably middle 17th c. in origin. The 18th c. date suggested in the listing report was presumed from a carved date in a cupboard next to the fireplace in the parlour 9now removed) of the 1700's which is not a reliable source of dating evidence. |
