Abstract:
An archaeological desk-based assessment was conducted for Chaplin Farrant on behalf of their clients Laragh Homes, ahead of a proposed development on land at Street Farm Barn, Brandeston Road, Earl Soham, Suffolk. This report will accompany the planning application. The site is situated on the south side of the village adjacent to Earl Soham Conservation Area, although the site is not covered by any specific planning or heritage designations. There are no designated heritage assets recorded within the boundary of the proposed development site. Street Farm Barn itself should be considered as a non-designated heritage asset and has been subject to a Heritage Asset Assessment (Blanchflower 2014). Although none of the listed buildings within the Conservation Area are directly affected by the proposed new development this study shows that there will be some minor changes to the view from and to those historic buildings. This also applies to the landscape of the Conservation Area but the small impact on vistas has been mitigated by the sympathetic nature of the proposed development in siting single-storey buildings and screening with existing trees and new planting. Two Scheduled Monuments (21297-01, 21297-02) connected with Soham Lodge to the north of The Street are not affected by the proposed development.
