Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken by South West Archaeology Ltd. (SWARCH) prior to the installation of an underground LPG gas tank in the garden of Budleigh Cottage, Kerswell, Broadhembury, Devon. The work was carried out on 9th April 2019 in accordance with a Written Scheme of Investigation (Boyd 2019) drawn up in consultation with the Devon County Historic Environment Team (DCHET). The site is located c.1km east of Dulford and c.2km north-west of Broadhembury on the western side of the square which forms the core of the village of Kerswell. The excavated area was located towards the southern boundary of the garden at a height of c.113m AOD. The soils of this area are the well-drained reddish coarse and fine loamy soils of the Newnham Association (SSEW 1983); overlying sedimentary sandstone of the Helsby Sandstone Formation (BGS 2018). |
