Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken of the north revetment wall at Lincoln Castle. This was designed to assess the archaeological impact of proposals to replace the failing revetment wall. Fieldwork commenced with a pre-intervention photographic record and measured survey. Excavation consisted of a single trench, which encountered deposits of 18th to 19th-century date, which have been interpreted as part of terraced landscaping occupying the north side of the castle grounds adjacent to the castle back. Further late 20th century landscaping obscured earlier terracing, with the heightening the terrace and construction of the current dry stone revetment wall. |
