Abstract:
In September 2018 Archaeological Solutions Ltd carried out archaeological monitoring and recording on land Adjacent to the Threshing Floor, Great Green, Cockfield, Suffolk. IP30 0HQ (NGR TL 918 558; Figs. 1 - 2). The monitoring was undertaken in compliance with a planning condition attached to planning approval for the construction of two new detached dwellings (Babergh Council Approval Ref. DC/17/06124), based on advice from Suffolk County Council Archaeological Service Conservation Team (SCC AS-CT). The site is located on the southern side of Great Green near Cockfield, within an area of archaeological potential recorded on the Suffolk Historic Environment Record (HER), immediately adjacent to the medieval Great Green (formerly Broad Green) (HER COK 068). A possible medieval moated site also lies adjacent (HER COK 056). The site thus had a potential for evidence of the medieval settlement associated with the green at Cockfield. In the event the monitoring revealed no archaeological features or finds.
