Abstract:		 In May 2018, East Lothian Council Archaeology Service (ELCAS) monitored a metal-detecting survey undertaken across a small area of ground on the eastern flank of Traprain Law, East Lothian, prior to the installation of a new water trough. Subsequent archaeological monitoring (watching brief) was undertaken during the excavation of the foundation trench required for the installation of the new water trough, and an associated water toby. The archaeological works were undertaken on behalf of East Lothian Council, the owners and managers of the site, under a Written Scheme of Investigation approved by Historic Environment Scotland (HES) as part of the Scheduled Monument Consent (SMC) for the works. SMC was granted by HES in March 2018 (Case ID 300024624). No significant archaeological finds, features or deposits were identified during the course of the archaeological works
