Abstract: |
Archaeology South-East was commissioned by Wilmott Dixon to undertake an archaeological evaluation at on land at 533 Purley Way, London Borough of Croydon. The evaluation comprised five machine excavated trenches. A superficial geology of sandy clay was recorded between 52.19m and 53.35m aOD. These natural deposits were overlain by a subsoil of root-disturbed sandy clay and topsoil across most of the site. Made ground deposits associated with the demolition of Waddon Infants School (situated to the north of the site) and the construction of the housing bordering the southern end of the site, were encountered at the northern and southwest ends of the site. A small amount of residual flint and probable medieval pottery was recovered from the interface between the superficial geology and the overlying topsoil but no archaeological cut features or deposits were encountered |
