Abstract: |
Archaeological watching brief on groundworks associated with the development of a large government building. The site lies south of the historic town of Nottingham in an area known as 'the Meadows', Hoopers Sconce (a fort built in 1644) is thought to lie close to the site. The investigation revealed a possible Bronze Age land surface and a sequence of Late Post-Medieval to modern levelling deposits. These represent expansion of the city of Nottingham into 'the Meadows' which was built up considerably in the 19th century as it was prone to flooding. |
