Abstract:
The geophysical survey identified a series of linear anomalies corresponding with the positions of the historic boundaries, though potentially infilled with modern debris. An additional possible boundary was identified as a series of post-holes, perhaps indicating a former fence-line. A linear arrangement of pits with possible spoil mounds running the length of the eastern edge of Field 1 may represent mineral prospection along the line of a lode. Other discrete anomalies distributed across the site may represent pits and tree-throws of unknown date. On the basis of the geophysical survey, the archaeological potential of the site is low-moderate, containing features associated with the post-medieval and modern field-systems alongside possible mine-working activity which may be connected to the Parka Mine to the south. The impact of any development on surviving buried archaeological resources may be permanent and irreversible. Although the significance of any buried archaeological deposits remains appears limited, and is unlikely to require any further mitigation prior to development.
