Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken by Archaeology South-East at 26 Week Street, Maidstone, ME14 1RN. 14 walls were encountered that were part of an old cellar, since backfilled with various made ground and demolition deposits. Based on brick samples recovered from site, these walls generally date to the 19th/ 20th centuries. One brick sample was dated potentially to the 17th century, however the presence of disused electric cables running through the walls suggest it was re-used in a much later construction. Three of the walls encountered were constructed from Kent ragstone. Samples taken from these did not provide dating information. |
