Abstract: |
An historic building record of the 1837 South Molton Union Workhouse was prepared prior to conversion into residential accommodation. The building was the town's third, but first purpose-built, workhouse. it was constructed to an amended version of Samuel Kempthorne's 'Workhouse for 200 Paupers (Adapted for the less pauperised districts) design. The north range was rebuilt in 1895 following a fire in 1892. A new detached isolation block was constructed in the mid 20th century. Significant changes were made in the 1970s and 1980s when the workhouse was converted into the Quince Honey Farm. |
