Abstract: |
Booklet produced by Wessex Archaeology summarising the discovery and story of a Luftwaffe Junker's 88 the remains of which were recorded and retrieved during the London Gateway Port dredging on the 9 August 2011. 45 pieces of aircraft wreckage were found by the crew of the suction dredger Congo River during the dredging of the navigation channel. The finds included fragments of aluminium aircraft frame and parts from a large format camera. A stamp reading ‘R8.88’ was visible on the frame which was evidence that the dredger had encountered the wreck of a Junkers 88 (Ju 88) – a German bomber used extensively in World War II. |
