Abstract:
During 2015 Albion Archaeology was commissioned by English Heritage to undertake archaeological evaluation within a number of areas of the designed landscape in order to assist with the formulation of plans for restoration and future management. The purpose of the work was to assess the survival, construction and location of paths within three areas of the park where restoration was planned. In addition further evaluation of the Bath House area was required in order to inform plans for improving the drainage of the area. Work in the Bath House area was to include monitoring of auguring undertaken by the hydrological engineers and test pits being dug to look at the structural condition of the Bath House. In early 2016 further work was commissioned by English Heritage and Albion Archaeology undertook archaeological monitoring and investigation during the ground works associated with restoration and improvement of drainage in the Bath House Pond and Orangery Wetlands area, and during the reinstatement of historic paths in the Great Gardens East.
