Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out at The Lonnen in Ryton in advance of development in order to try and locate the Stella Grand Lease Way and Stella to Ryton Moor waggonways. The evaluation was initially intended to consist of two trenches however access to one of the trenches was restricted and it was therefore not excavated. The remaining single trench measured 25m x 2m, although it was shortened due to the presence of a drainage pipe. A modern dog burial and a feature of unknown purpose were found and excavated within the trench. No evidence of either waggonway was encountered during the evaluation. |
