Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by Oakford Archaeology in February 2020 on works associated with the construction of an agricultural store and stable building on land adjacent to Penraddon, Whimple, Devon. The site lies in an area of archaeological potential immediately adjacent to the line of the former Roman road between Exeter and Honiton. A watching brief was maintained during excavations associated with the creation of a new access and area of hardstanding. The works entailed the excavation of an area approximately 28.5m long and 17m wide to a maximum depth of 0.3m. The works revealed a simple deposit sequence extending across the whole site. No deposits, features or dating evidence indicative of archaeological activity was found. |
