Abstract:
In August 2018 Archaeological Solutions (AS) carried out archaeological monitoring and recording at Ketts Park Community Centre, Harts Farm Road, Wymondham, Norfolk. NR18 0UR. (NGR 612244 302159; Figs. 1 - 2). The monitoring was carried out in compliance with planning condition attached to planning approval for a new artificial grass pitch (South Norfolk Planning Approval Ref. 2017/1876), based on the advice of Norfolk County Council Historic Environment Service (NCC HES). The Norfolk Historic Environment Record records that previous investigations here have revealed archaeological remains including a Bronze Age pit. Investigations in advance of the Harts Farm development in the 1990s revealed undated ditches and multi-period finds (NHER 30846). Harts Farm was a post-medieval farmstead with paddocks and enclosures (NHER 54634). Prehistoric pot boilers, and medieval and post-medieval finds have also been made here (NHER 30871). The Moot Hill ringwork to the south was likely built by the D'Albini's in the later 11th/early 122th century (NHER 9438). A German WWII plane crash site is also recorded here. The site, therefore, had potential to reveal remains of all dates in particular those of prehistoric, medieval and post medieval date. In the event the monitoring of the groundworks revealed no archaeological features or finds.
