Abstract: |
Hadleigh, 1 Duke Street (HAD 236, TM 02707 42335) monitoring of groundworks for a rear extension to the rear of a complex building with a late medieval origin revealed a brick built cellar below a 20th century extension that was demolished indicating an earlier rear extension adjacent to the early to mid-15th century part of the existing structure that was removed at some point. Some evidence for earlier activity at the site was suggested by three stray sherds of medieval, 13th-14th century, pottery from the disturbed subsoil. |
