Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by Oakford Archaeology for Mr Peter Wood in June 2018 on works associated with the erection of a single storey extension and associated works at Leigh House, Gidleigh Park, Devon. The site lies in an area of high archaeological potential immediately west of Leigh House. The site has been continuously occupied since at least the 17th century when the current building was constructed. A watching brief was maintained during the excavation of the new foundations for the garage and the main house. The works revealed a simple deposit sequence consisting of a 0.65m thick mid to dark brown clayey silt topsoil overlying a growan natural subsoil. |
