Abstract: |
Berrynarbor Manor Hall is a community hall lying in the centre of Berrynarbor village. The building is run by the Manor Hall Trust, a registered charity, who hold it in trust for the benefit of the inhabitants of the parish. It occupies the remains of the historic Manor House of Berrynarbor, a Grade II Listed building of medieval origin, and was once part of a larger complex of manorial structures. The remains preserve some unusual features which may suggest the survival of elements of earlier date, and carved decorations which show that the house was refurbished with the additionof high quality ornaments in the early 17th century. The building retains a highly-unusual roof for the period supported by common rafter trusses of a type usually associated (in Devon) with 13th and 14th-century buildings. |
