Abstract: |
Pre-Construct Archaeological Services Ltd (PCA) conducted archaeological monitoring and recording during the excavation of foundations for a house extension at No. 3 Abbey Park, Torksey. No archaeological features were identified within the monitored trenches. Deposits within 0.8m of the present ground surface can be identified as contemporary with the development of the Abbey Park residential estate since the mid 1990s. The lowest visible layer contains fragments of pottery, bone and tile, and may be a demolition deposit associated with clearance of Saxon, medieval and post-medieval buildings on land in the immediate vicinity. The sites of a probable church and other monastic structures have been located during previous archaeological investigation on the Abbey Park site. |
